Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC)

WPC is a novel type of composite material, utilizing polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, etc., in lieu of conventional resin adhesives, with over 50% wood flour, rice husk, straw and other waste plant fibers blended to create new wood materials. These are then processed through extrusion, molding, injection molding and other plastic processing techniques to produce plates or profiles. Primarily employed in building materials, furniture, logistics packaging and various other industries. The resulting sheet from hot extrusion after mixing plastic and wood powder in specific proportions is referred to as an extruded wood-plastic composite sheet.

Main features of WPC

Wood-plastic composite (WPC) materials are composed of high-density polyethylene and wood fibers, which determine their unique characteristics blending both plastic and wood properties.

 (1) Exceptional processability

 WPC materials, containing plastic and fibers, exhibit processing properties akin to wood; they can be sawed, nailed, planed using woodworking tools with superior nail-holding strength compared to other synthetic materials. Their mechanical properties surpass those of wooden materials with nail-holding strength generally three times that of wood and five times that of particleboard.

 (2) Superior strength performance

 With the inclusion of plastic, WPC materials possess a good elastic modulus. Additionally, due to the thorough mixing of fibers with the plastic material it exhibits physical mechanical properties such as compression resistance and bending comparable to hardwoods; its durability is significantly better than ordinary wooden materials while having surface hardness generally 2-5 times that of wood. 

(3) Long-lasting water-resistant and corrosion-resistant features

 In comparison to timber products, WPC products resist strong acids and alkalis; they are water-resistant and corrosion-resistant without bacterial growth or susceptibility to insect damage or fungal growth resulting in a service life exceeding 50 years.

(4) Excellent adjustability

Through additives, plastics can undergo changes such as polymerization, foaming solidification modification etc., thereby altering the density strength characteristics of WPC while meeting special requirements for anti-aging antistatic flame retardancy etc.
